This month, we are awarding two microgrants, to Jamie Broadnax and Jamie Kingston, for their interviews with Spike Trotman, published on BlackGirlNerds, and Women Write About Comics.

We felt that these two interviews exemplified the community of colour that has always existed in the world of comics – a supportive, intelligent group that reads and writes about works by fellow creators of colour. We love that these journalists have provided a platform to promote works that exist to flesh out the myriad of stories belonging to people of colour, and provided incisive and interesting commentary and questions that further the discussion about these necessary works, and a space for their creators to speak freely about them.
Naturally, we also wanted to recognize the work that both women have done as journalists and writers – Jamie Broadnax for her empire of nerd-girl brilliance and joy at BlackGirlNerds, and Jamie Kingston for her continued excellence at writing for Women Write About Comics, both websites which have encouraged and proliferated the voices of women of colour.
